What counts toward each requirement
- Flight training received is dual instruction from an authorized instructor, logged and signed.
- Cross-country for the private certificate means a flight with a landing at a point more than 50 nautical miles straight-line from the original departure point.
- Night training must include one cross-country of over 100 nm total distance, plus 10 takeoffs and 10 full-stop landings, each with a traffic pattern.
- Instrument training is by reference to instruments only (a view-limiting device counts).
- Checkride prep must be within the 2 calendar months before the practical test.
- The long solo cross-country is at least 150 nm total, with full-stop landings at three points and one leg of more than 50 nm between takeoff and landing.
This checklist covers §61.109(a) only. You also need the endorsements in §61.103 and §61.107 (see the CFI endorsement templates), a passed knowledge test and a medical or BasicMed. Part 141 schools follow their approved syllabus instead. Always confirm with your instructor and the current regulation.
